The Knights of Peter Claver was originally founded November 7, 1909 in Mobile Alabama as an organization to allow men of color membership in a Catholic fraternal society. The organization was incorporated July 12, 1911 at Mobile, Alabama.
St. Juliana Council #268 was established through Mr. Henry Lacour, Sr. (founder) and several other men of the parish. Mr. Willie Davis served as the first Grand Knight. The purpose of this organization is to render service to God and His Holy Church, both recognizing the Fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man and assisting in the growth and prosperity of the Catholic Church.

The Meritorious Fourth Degree is the highest degree of the Knights of Peter Claver, Inc. Members of the Fourth Degree Knights are addressed as “Sir Knight,” and members of the Fourth Degree Ladies of Grace are addressed as “Gracious Lady.” At the present time, there are approximately 900 Sir Knights and 1,620 Gracious Ladies throughout the Order. The Junior Daughters Division of the Knights of Peter Claver was organized August 5, 1930 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Elizabeth Thomas and Fannie Jones were the organizers of the Junior Daughters. The Junior Daughters operate under the authority of the Ladies Auxiliary. The Junior Daughters are devoted to becoming Marian catechists and to the goals of the Knights of Peter Claver.
